Vilma “Mima” Reid, 84 years old, of Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, passed away on April 10, 2020 in Brooklyn, New York. 

Vilma “Mima” as she was affectionately called, was born in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica to James Mulgrave and Roberta Reid Agames on February 21, 1936.  She grew up and went to school in Limon.  She worked at Decar managing the cafeteria and was the main cook at that factory for several years before she retired and became a “snowbird”.  She lived in New York during the warm months and returning to Costa Rica in the winter.  

Vilma was a sassy lady, never holding back in letting you know exactly how she felt; that kept family and friends around her on their toes.  She was an amazing cook, she loved to crochet but more than anything she LOVE to dance, always showing off her belly roll, and yes at 84 years old she was still doing her belly roll.  

She survived by her sister Joyce Reid; her children: sons Andres Reid and Gilberto “nano” Reid; her daughters Ebony McLean (Reid), Joan Watson-Hall, Karen Watson; her grandchildren Rodolfo Reid, Jennifer Madrigal, Nicole Reid, Amanda McLean, Jessica McLean, Anghie Hall, Kayla Hall, Karima Lopez, Simone Lopez, Cindy Palacios, Patricia Reid, Christopher Reid,  Paola Reid, Yancy Reid, Shirley Reid, Ricardo Reid, Fabian Reid, Michael Reid, Ka Reid; great-Grandchildren Elijah, Jahlani, Amira.  She also leaves behind many more grand and great-grandchildren, a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends to mourn her Homegoing.  Vilma is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and most recently by her sister Joan McPhun.

Due to COVID-19, the family will not be holding a viewing or funeral. Her cremation will be done on April 18, 2020 at Greenwood Crematory in Newark, NJ. Her family would like to thank the staff at Schulman and Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation for the care she received for the past year. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Griffin-Peters Funeral Home, Inc. in Manhattan is entrusted with her care.

Vilma "Mima", como la llamaban cariñosamente, nació en Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, hijo de James Mulgrave y 
Roberta Reid Agames el 21 de Febrero de 1936. Creció y fue a la escuela en Limón. Trabajó en Decar 
administrando la cafetería y fue la cocinera principal de esa fábrica durante varios años antes de 
retirarse y convertirse en una "ave de las nieves". Ella vivió en Nueva York durante los meses cálidos y
regresó a Costa Rica en el invierno.


Vilma era una mujer no tenia pelos en la lengua, y siempre te dejaba saber exactamente cómo se sentía; eso 
mantenía a la familia y amigos a su alrededor alerta. Ella era una cocinera increíble, le encantaba tejer
a ganchillo, pero más que nada le ENCANTA bailar,siempre mostrando su danza del vientre, y sí, a los 84 años
todavía estaba bailendo y moviendo su barriga.

Ella es sobrevivida por su hermana Joyce Reid; sus hijos: hijos Andrés Reid y Gilberto "nano" Reid; sus hijas 
Ebony McLean (Reid),Joan Watson-Hall, Karen Watson; sus nietos Rodolfo Reid, Jennifer Madrigal, Nicole Reid,
Amanda McLean, Jessica McLean, Anghie Hall,Kayla Hall, Karima Lopez, Simone Lopez, Cindy Palacios, Patricia Reid,
Christopher Reid, Paola Reid, Yancy Reid, Shirley Reid,Ricardo Reid, Fabian Reid, Michael Reid, Ka Reid; 
bisnietos Elijah, Jahlani, Amira. También deja atrás a muchos más nietos y bisnietos, una serie de amorosas 
sobrinas, sobrinos, parientes y amigos para llorar su regreso a casa. Le precedieron en la muerte a Vilma sus
padres, dos hermanos y más recientemente su hermana Joan McPhun. 

Invitamos a los familiares, amigos y otras personas cuyas vidas tocó Vilma que se unan con nosotros a recordarse,
llorar y apoyarse mutuamente al compartir sus fotos y recuerdos en esta página. 

Debido a COVID-19, la familia no realizará una visita o un funeral. Su cremación se realizará el 18 de Abril de 
2020 en Greenwood Crematory en Newark, NJ. A su familia le gustaría agradecer al personal del Instituto Schulman 
y Schachne de Enfermería y Rehabilitación por la atención que recibió durante el año pasado. Una celebración de 
la vida se llevará a cabo en una fecha posterior. Griffin-Peters Funeral Home, Inc. 
en Manhattan se encarga de su cuidado.
