My memory with Tony goes back to when Lamis was taking her finals at our Dental college in Damascus. Tony would always wait for her outside the exam room, praying and reading his books until Lamis finished her exam. Lamis always greeted him with a big smile on her face. Our group of friends would always stand there, watching in amazement, as we witnessed his dedication and love for Lamis, and the peace and love they had together.
Years passed, and I was always happy when I could see them again. They visited us in South Carolina a couple of time. The last time they visited was April 2018. I was so happy to see Tony after a long battle with the cancer. He was in remission, and Lamis was so excited as she was confirming the trip to South Carolina now that he was healthy enough to travel. I was so happy and excited too. When we were finally all together, we had meaningful conversations and a great time catching about our lives, families, and the world- with all of its triumphs and troubles. My family and I were so happy to spend time with Lamis and Tony- not knowing it would be the last time we would see Tony. He added so much light into the world, and we are grateful for the time we had together. We will miss Tony so much, and may his soul in heaven rest in peace.
