Life is like a journey on a train with its stations...changes
of routes...and accidents. This train ride will be full of joy,
sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, and farewells.

At birth, we board this train and meet our parents, who we believe
will always be traveling on our side. However, at some station, our
parents will step down from the train, leaving us alone to continue
on our journey.

In time, significant people will board the train, our siblings, friends,
children, and even the love of our life. When some step down, they
will leave a permanent vacuum. Others will go so unnoticed that we
won't even realize they have vacated their seats.

I am so blessed and grateful to Jane Pak for her having been one of
the passengers on my own train. The warmth and radiance of Jane’s
smile instantly drew me to her and held me captivate during all the
years I knew her while we worked together in the League of Women
Voters. We both loved words and took turns out-wordsmithing the
other for various copy going in the VOTER newsletter or the League’s
Susan B. Anthony Luncheon program.

Vaya con Dios, beloved Jane. No one will ever fill your noticeably
empty seat on my train. Katherine Homan
