March 6, 1934 – August 26, 2020
Ann Gordon of Old Lyme, CT passed away Wednesday, August 26th due to complications from heart surgery. She was born in Los Angeles to the late William Robert and Selena (Steuben) Jason. She met her husband, Ted Gordon, at a jazz appreciation class and married him at the age of 19. March 6, 1934 – August 26, 2020
Ann Gordon of Old Lyme, CT passed away Wednesday, August 26th due to complications from heart surgery. She was born in Los Angeles to the late William Robert and Selena (Steuben) Jason. She met her husband, Ted Gordon, at a jazz appreciation class and married him at the age of 19. In their 67 years of marriage, they lived in Malibu, CA, Vero Beach, FL, Glastonbury CT, and Old Lyme, CT. She was the mother of four children: Katherine (Sam Ventres), Thomas (Carol Mills), Lisa Greenspan (David), and Michael (Constance Fox). She adored her eight grandchildren: Andrew, Laura, Alex, Michelle (Edward Mendez), Aaron, Leah, Gabrielle, and Michael V. She was also a loving great grandmother to three-year-old Logan. Ann was big sister to Robert Jason (Montse) and recently deceased Mark Jason (late Roselyn Richmond). She was also “Aunt Ann” to Gregory (Leah), Andrea (Eduardo Enz), and William Jason (Kim).
She was happy, bright, articulate, and optimistic. While a young mother, she earned her undergraduate degree, no small feat. She went on to obtain her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Hartford. Ann taught elementary school classes in Columbia, CT and loved tutoring and mentoring students at local elementary schools. She was an avid bridge player, most recently playing on-line, and enjoyed tennis, but was most competitive during family charades. She was a founding member of a couples’ book club with the same group of friends for decades and traveled with Ted and friends throughout the world. She particularly liked Italy and had lasting friends there. Ann loved her food hot and her jazz cool. Ann loved living near the ocean. She and Ted sailed together for 20 years, covering the waters from Maine to Key West and the Bahamas.
Ann supported many charitable causes and offered her time to help the less fortunate. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters, and participated in Hadassah events. She was an enthusiastic democrat, concerned about the future. She was a thoroughly good person: High values, high standards and a good friend. The world was better because of her. All who knew her will miss her.
A private ceremony will be held this fall. A link will be distributed to family and friends to participate in a celebration of life via zoom.

Your Mom was a special lady with a great intellect and a beautiful example of parental responsibility and loyal friendship. I was blessed to have known her....

Ann was a very bright, full of life, delightful person. Ted is a lucky man to be with such a wonderful person for so many years. And all those great photographs show that! What a fantastic couple!
I first met Ann at an AAUW trip to the United Nations complex in New York City. She was seated across from me at lunch and as we chatted about our views, I was so impressed with this little lady and what she had to say. She was seated across from me at lunch and as we chatted about our views, I was so impressed with this little lady and what she had to say. And she managed a household with 4 children and had time to play bridge and be in book groups.
Some time later when I was no longer able to drive to book group she offered to pick me up. We had such great conversations both going and coming back. We covered the world, our book, our families, menus and cooking and much more. Ann also subbed in a little bridge group I am in and talked about other groups she played in. She was a very good player.
Needless to say, I miss her friendship very much.

Please, accept our condolences. Here in Moscow we are very upset. I have known Anna since 1996, we had a fairly long life. We (me and my daughter Ann) loved Anna very much. She was an unusually benevolent person and a good friend. We learned from her how to love a person after 50 years of marriage. I have always admired how delicately she could feel the mood and problems of Ted and the people around her, and how she could find a simple but very right word to support us. I remember with what pride she and Ted talked about their big family: children, grandchildren, nephews, etc. How proud they were that the wedding of one of their descendants was held at their home.
I always remember her with a warm smile, an unusually bright person. We will always remember her.
Unbeknownst to many, as a young bride, Ann shared Ted’s interest in amateur radio and became an amateur radio ham operator herself. I will miss Ann. She was a real force of energy. I told your Dad that my recollection was when we were meeting and the discussion was drawing to a close. She would pull out her calendar which was already covered in activities, etc. and would say, “Who is next and what is the book?” She wanted to be certain that there would be a next meeting all lined up before she left. I think she was the driving force that held that group together for so many years. She will certainly be missed by all of us.
Please accept my condolences to you and your family. Losing a loved one is just so terribly hard....Ann was special.

Ann and I were Duplicate Bridge partners for nearly 2 years. We played every Wednesday from about 11AM to 4PM at the Old Saybrook Pavillion located at the mouth of the Connecticut River, arguably the most beautiful place, anywhere, to play bridge. We sat at Table #1 in the corner with views thru large windows up, down and across the river. North/South teams do not have to move to change tables - Ann was South and had the best views of all players in the room - I sat North. Pictures below.....
Ann introduced herself to this group of players by bringing in delicious lunch treats - her Guacamole was especially memorable. Sometimes these treats were in bowls and packaging that were in challenging sizes (Ann did not let her own size discourage her) and, she had lots of volunteer help bringing those treats into the club!
We regularly exchanged emails regarding our 'results'. I'll share this exchange from almost 1 year ago - Ann and I finished 1st in our 11 pair North/South group, and 1st overall - 22 pairs. Claire Sauer is our program/executive director

Ann was a sailor, as am I. As it happened, during our bridge playing time, I was writing a book, Voyaging with Marionette, about my 25 years with Marionette, a boat I bought from the CT River Museum (up the river!). She helped me with my 'stories', reviewed a draft, and bought a copy of the book just a couple of weeks before she left on her 'voyage'.
We will miss her.
