On Saturday, May 2, 2020, Brenda LaJoyce Wilson, loving mother and grandmother passed away at the age 71 in Buford, GA. Brenda was born on October 27, 1948 to the late Mertria Eddines Martin of Chatham, LA and John William Martin of Saline, LA. Born and raised in Portland, OR Brenda was the sixth of seven children. Brenda graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966. She received her Master's Degree in Education and served over 25 years as an educator and as a college professor in the areas of mathematics and accounting. She was awarded “Teacher of the Year” many times throughout her career and served as department chair at several schools she taught. Brenda’s extraordinary methods of teaching inspired young minds to be passionate about learning. She truly cared for each of her students. Brenda gave her life to the Lord at a young age. Brenda served almost 30 years in ministry. She served as First Lady, Evangelist, overseeing Women's Ministries and Children's ministries. Some of the churches she served in different capacities include Union Baptist Church, Carver Missionary Baptist Church, Philadelphia COGIC, and Calvary Four Square. Brenda had a passion for creativity and the arts. She was a talented tailor and seamstress; making dresses and suits for many women and her kids. She also spent many years painting porcelain. She absolutely enjoyed the theater and musicals. Her passions live on through her children. She also loved gardening. Many know her favorite flower was the rose. Not only did rose bushes surround her home but she often decorated with rose's. She even said she chose her home because of the street name Rose Canyon. Her spirit is carried on by her children DeAngela Kittrell (Clarence Kittrell), Stephino Brown, Antoinette Scott (Ashley Scott), Brandon J. Wilson (Gussie Wilson); her grandchildren Cierra Samuel, Corbin Scott, Colton Scott, Collin Scot, Naji Wilson, Christopher Kittrell; and her siblings Frank Booker (Janice Booker) of Vancouver Washington, Mertria Barber of Gresham, OR and James M. Martin (Cora Martin) of Lansing, MI and Many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sisters Vernastein Sweet, Janice Martin, Ella Marteal Simms-Taylor; her parents Mertria Eddines Martin and John William Martin.
