Damon was unexpectedly taken from us on December 2, 2020 in Southfield, MI. Today we grieve for the loss of our son, brother, uncle, friend, family member, and coworker, but tomorrow we move forward, at our own pace, and remember the impact that Damon had on all of our lives. Damon never fully knew how much of an effect he had on all of us, but in his memory, let us come together, and leave a story, or picture to honor his legacy.
Damon was born on January 22, 1989 and was a beloved son of Charlie and Susan Franklin. He was a sweet and loving brother to Tameka (Joe) and Donald (Emily) Franklin. He had deep affection for his niece (Sophia) and nephews (Sebastian, Gavin, and Caiden).
Damon grew up in Southfield, MI where he and Donald loved to spend time pestering and scaring their sister Tameka, spent many hours playing sports (basketball/hockey), and playing video games. The family owned a martial arts gym where they grew up learning the art of Tang Soo Do from their dad. Damon had a very close bond with his friends and had many great times and stories from over the years. He always was willing to lend an ear and be there for those that needed it. He was not afraid to be the odd one out just to break barriers and make others feel welcome.
Damon had a strong passion for information technology in the cyber security field and worked close to 10 years in technical support at Wayne County Community College District. He was gifted in so many ways and when it came to trouble shooting problems and out-of-the-box thinking, he was the go-to-guy. Damon programmed and worked on cell phones as a hobby; when he talked about his latest project, we just nodded our heads but never knew what he was talking about! He took much pride in the work that he did, guidance he gave, and the minds he helped shape.
He had a passion for his Subaru WRX and driving with him was quite a life-changing experience; anyone who has, knows what we are talking about!
Damon's mom taught him how to play Chess; after only a few games, he would get this twinkle in his eye and she knew she was in checkmate without even looking at the board; she never won another game! Damon also was a quick study for poker, learning the game from his uncle and wound up quite the player, winning several poker tournaments! Damon also learned about the market, buying and selling stock and investing in bitcoin in his spare time.
Damon's creative mind led him to produce music with a close friend of his and he was very talented with his ability. Through performing, he became more comfortable in those skills and developed a passion for the lyrics he wrote and versed.
Damon, you will be truly and deeply missed on this earth and will forever be loved and cherished in our hearts.
