Glennys was born in Yankton County on April 20, 1928, the youngest of ten children born to Mary F. (Hacecky) Pechan and Joseph J. Pechan. She attended country school near Janouscek, SD. She often expressed a desire to have continued her schooling. At a time when few women worked outside the home, Glennys moved to Yankton when she was 13 to begin working to support her mother. She held jobs at the Red Owl, Montgomery Wards, and as a housekeeper. Her favorite job was at Kapitan's Grocery Store, where she enjoyed keeping the books and working the cash register for 22 years. Glennys married the love of her life, Ordell L. Strunk, on July 16, 1946. They lived in Yankton and had a son, Gene A. Strunk. Ordell died in a tragic accident in 1954. Glennys later married Merlyn L. Larsen on October 10, 1959. Merlyn worked for the City of Yankton and played accordion in the Czechers polka band. Glennys loved to dance, especially polkas and waltzes, and accompanied Merlyn to many regional dances. In fact, she kept dancing into her 90th year. The couple enjoyed camping and playing cards with friends. Glennys was a very skilled seamstress and an excellent pinochle player. Her banana bread and angel food layer cakes were family favorites. Her ham balls were out of this world! Glennys was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Yankton. She moved to Spokane in 2006 to be near family. In Spokane, Glennys was active in quilting and enjoyed many happy years at the Evergreen Fountains Senior Living Community. Glennys was grateful for her many life-long friends and cherished family members. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother and grandmother, someone who smiled through adversity and always enjoyed a good laugh. Thankful for having shared her life are her son, Gene A. Strunk, Spokane Valley, WA; grandchildren: Lisa (Corey) Carlson, Sioux Falls, SD; Jon C. Strunk, San Rafael, CA; Chase O. Strunk, Mountain Home AFB, ID; Courtney E. Strunk, Spokane, WA, and many relatives and friends. Glennys was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, five brothers and four sisters. A private family interment service will be held.
