Grace Monica Bowen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother has passed away at the age of 83. She died on Friday, October 23, 2020, at the residence she shared with her late husband in Far Rockaway, NY of natural causes. She is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Grace Monica Josephine was born on May 4, 1937, in Sri Lanka to Michael William Rosairo and Elizabeth Rosairo (Perera). Grace was the third of four children born to the pair. Grace had two older siblings: Anasta (brother), Florence (sister) and, a younger sister, Regina (Gina).
Grace attended Good Shepherd Convent in Diwala, Sri Lanka where she studied stenography. She went on to marry Aubrey Granville Bowen on June 18, 1959. Aubrey and Monica raised three daughters: Rose, Cynthia, and Jennifer. Aubrey & Monica have 7 grandchildren: Sheron, Ashan, Janice, Ishan, Angela, Shawn & Julian, and 4 great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Phoenix, Kiaan, and Zayan.
Grace's late husband, Aubrey, was dutifully employed with the American Embassy in Sri Lanka for over 35 years. During his tenure with the embassy, Aubrey also served overseas in the middle east. For his loyal service, upon retirement, the couple was allowed to relocate to the United States.
Grace loved to laugh! She could find humor in most situations and her laughter and smile were contagious. Grace was a religious woman and loved to pray even when she was not attending mass. She recited many rosaries, novenas, and made countless vows. Her favorite television station was the prayer channel. Grace also loved to cook, which worked out well because her husband Aubrey loved to eat her cooking.
Grace's husband Aubrey Granville Bowen, passed away on October 10, 2020. Grace did not wait even a fortnight to join him. We like to think that her "Sonna" came for her. More than likely he was looking for his "Merla" wondering where she was? And also wanting her to make him a cup of coffee or fry him a couple of eggs.
