Jerry Lee Bryan II, age 77, passed away peacefully August 28, 2020 due to congestive heart failure. He was born December 1, 1942 in Freeport, TX to Betty and Jerry Bryan. Ten years later, he was joined by his little sister, Carol.
Jerry ( better known as “Butch”) loved early mornings, a difficult crossword, beautiful flowers, annoying wait staff, his dogs (especially his beloved Rose), a great meal, a stiff drink, and a fishing pole in salt water.
Those who knew him will always remember his incredible mind (making him particularly talented at bad puns), his appreciation for beauty, incredible work ethic and his sentimental nature.
His children will always remember how he encouraged their dreams. Where most parents would have said, “That’s not practical,” he spurred us on to follow our passion in music, tennis, theater and art. He taught us to make moments special. We remember the special Christmas drinks and the intricate Easter nests covered with fresh flowers. Most importantly, like his parents, he raised us to love and trust in the Lord God.
Jerry is survived by his children and their spouses: Bill and Susie Bryan, Steven and Ashley Bryan, Fernando Menendez and Jennifer Bryan, Reade Bryan and Shinae Lee; his sister and her husband: Carol and Frank Thomas; grandchildren: Audrey Bryan, Lily Bryan, Alejandro Menendez and Zoe Menendez; former wife and dear friend Lauren DeLouche, as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces, and cousins.
A man’s life is long, if he is fortunate, and complicated. In his last year, when he knew he did not have much time, he had the opportunity to spend his days with those most dear to him. He came to a peace. He told me, “I have truly found the peace that surpasses all understanding.” I take that as a wonderful teaching to embrace. How wonderful is the grace and love of God; “that while were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We are fully loved, fully accepted. We are his children. I take comfort knowing my Dad is at peace, surrounded by those who went before him, in his eternal home.
