Loren James Paulson – October 7, 1950 – February 20, 2021 Lee’s Summit, MO
Loren passed away on February 20, 2021 from Leukemia at age 70. Loren was born to Margaret and Kenneth Paulson in Estherville, IA on October 7, 1950.
While growing up in Iowa, Loren developed a love of music which eventually took him to the University of Iowa to study Opera. It also earned him three separate inductions into the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. While playing with The Soul Company, he met the love of his life and mother of his three daughters, Cathy, or as he called her “Babe”. They were married in 1971 and enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage before she passed away in 2010. Loren was a wonderful husband, the ultimate girl dad to his three girls and a bonus dad to his son Mike, his nieces and countless others who needed him at various times in their lives. There wasn’t a man around who loved his grandkids more than Papa did and his weekends were often consumed with a tight activities schedule to ensure he could see as many of his kiddos do their thing as was possible. He always showed up. Family and friends never doubted how much they were loved as he told them frequently. He was incredibly generous to those he loved as well as many he didn’t even know. If there was a need and he could help, he did. It was that simple. He often shared that he was where he was in life because others gave to him and his family and he felt compelled to give back. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Loren is survived by his daughters Terra (Andrew), Tiffany (Amanda) and Toni (Scott), his brother Larry (Mena), twelve grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, and other family members and his granddog, Liza. He is preceded in death by his wife Cathy, mother Margaret, father Kenneth, son Mike and brother Jamie.
Due to concerns surrounding the health and safety of others, the family will be holding a small private funeral of close family and friends at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, MO on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 2pm. They hope to be able to host a Celebration of Loren’s life in the fall for all who knew and loved him. Until that time, please visit: https://www.gatheringus.com/memorial/loren-j-paulson/6840 to celebrate his life. Collecting your stories and memories here will offer us great comfort. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Chain of Hope (www.chainofhopekc.org), the incredible organization that brought him his sweet Liza Doo. She brought him so much comfort and peace. They would also like to thank the many doctors and caregivers for their wonderful care to Loren over the past few years. Daddy we love you… please give Mommy a kiss from us.
