We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and beloved Mr. Terry who passed away surrounded by family on October 26th. Mr. Terry was originally hospitalized due to complications of cancer and was fighting an impossible battle. This is an incredible loss to our Sarah Smith family, as he was the heart and soul of our school for over 10 years. In addition to his time of service around the hallways and classrooms, he was someone that we all felt deeply connected to. He was a fixture at school events and always accepted the opportunity to cheer on our children during his free time at their sporting events. Mr. Terry's bear hugs were unforgettable! You could not pass him in the hallways without his famous embrace.
We have a team working on ways to further honor his legacy at Sarah Smith. We will be sharing that with you all as soon as it is finalized. At this time, the family is asking for privacy as they process his recent death.
There are people who are put on this earth for the sole purpose of serving ones community and bringing joy to everyone in passing. Mr. Terry was truly one of those angels on earth and now in heaven. We love you and we miss you.

Each morning we would talk football and just check in with each other to see how we were doing. He always helped get various events ready by setting up the gym with tables and chairs. He put down and picked up thousands of chairs, lots of times by himself and never once complained. He would always be seen around the community attending different kids events. He loved to do that. It would make the kids day! The SRS Community lost a good one in Mr. Terry. The hallways will never be the same. Rest In Peace my man! You were loved and will never be forgotten ❤️ less
Mr. Terry had a gift for making people feel special. Without fail, he had a smile and a hug for me - every time he saw me! He made Sarah Smith such a warm and welcoming place. I will miss him dearly - he was one of a kind!

This week I am learning to say goodbye to a good friend and teaching my children to remember the gifts that friend, Mr. Terry, shared with our school. Mr. Terry brought joy, happiness, and laughter to all he met; he will be sorely missed by everyone. He formed many close friendships at Sarah Smith with teachers, students, and parents. Mr. Terry always made it easy for us to love him. One of his greatest gifts was finding your greatest joy, and then he would make it his, too. This was evident in his support of Sarah Smith Students on every baseball, football or track field, basketball court, or musical theater. Taking time on the weekends and school nights to share in our kid's activities. When he arrived at our kids' events, he was often greeted like a celebrity. It's a memory I will treasure, watching the kids know they were special because he was gifting them with his time, watching them do something they loved. He was their biggest fan.
His effort to connect and share in our interests only made those bonds of friendship stronger. His unique ability to support Sarah Smith's families is something that made our school special. He kept us more than safe. He kept us like family.
I, personally, will miss his texts asking for our kid's game schedules. Our regular chats about college football and his detailed scouting reports will not be easily be replaced. Even catching a glimpse of Mr. Terry, all decked out in orange, warmed my heart, sorry Bulldog fans. He knew how happy that made my kids and that happiness spread to me. That was classic Mr.Terry; his small choices could make you feel loved.
There are special people in our lives who never leave us. Mr. Terry's memory will always have a place in our hearts. less
