Margret (Peggy) L. Palmer
June 15, 1946 – January 14, 2019
Peggy was born and raised in Fircrest, graduated from Wilson High School and the University of Washington. She attended many school activities and loved swimming, water skiing and salmon fishing with her father.
She taught elementary school in Seattle for ten years and then decided to be a stay at home mom and focus on her family. She loved taking care of her family and continued her passion with water by boating with them throughout Puget Sound.
After her children left home, she became very involved including being on the board with Palmer Scholars, an organization her father started in the 1970’s, which mentors and raises funds for students so they can further their education. Peggy had a talent for cooking, decorating and entertaining. Her food and hospitality were enjoyed by many, often for charitable organizations.
She enjoyed Mariners baseball. When her mother moved back to the northwest, Peggy devised a quiz to teach her the players’ names. Her favorite players were generally those she thought were the nicest on the team rather than the level of their talent.
After her younger sister passed away at the age of 50, she devoted much of her time to her sister’s grandchildren. They enjoyed crafting and cooking together, and many sleepovers.
She will be deeply missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents R. Merle and Flora Palmer. Peggy is survived by her brother Jim Palmer (Julie), her son Jeremy Voigt (Amanda) and her daughter Rachel Voigt. Surviving grandchildren are Owen, Cecilia and Sandra Voigt.
Peggy requested no services. The family has requested any contributions to be made to the R. Merle Palmer Minority Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7119, Tacoma WA. 984117, www.palmerscholars.org.
