Obituary for RACHELLE ROSE FRANKS
Rachelle Sylvia Rose was born to Adele Sylvia Evans Rose and Vernon Coy Rose August 19, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. Too close family and friends, Rachelle was known as "CANDI'
Rachelle learned the importance of faith, family and loyal friends while growing up. She was baptized a Catholic and practiced her faith her entire life.
Rachelle attended Academy of Our Lady Catholic High School in Chicago for two years, later transferring and graduating from Harlen High in Chicago. She became a member of a social club called, The Deca-Trez where her close friends Teresa Robinson Banaszak and Diane Coleman Futrell were members. Teresa, Rachelle and Diane developed a close-sisterly friendship for 60 years.
Rachelle attended Loop Junior College in Chicago, where she became involved in President Kennedy's Poverty Program. There she worked with pregnant unwed high school girls. It was through this experience that Rachelle decided she wanted to be a social worker. In 1971 she moved to Washington, D.C. and completed her education at the District of Columbia Teachers College, earning a Bachlor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. Then she attended Howard University wehre she earned her Masters Degree in Social Work. After graduating, Rachelle relocated to Los Angeles. She worked at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in Watts, California as a Medical Social Worker, providing counseling to the less fortunate. Her specialty was counseling patients and families on death and dying. She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California in May 1981. Rachelle went into private practice part-time, working with troubled teens. In addition to her private practice she was employed by Kaisen Los Angeles Mecial Group, where she reitred after 35 years. She loved her work helping patients and their families cope with their life threatining illnesses. Throughout her life she helped hundreds of individuals.
While at Kaiser she met the love of her life, Gregory James Franks. A physician referred Gregory to Rachelle after telling him his mother had Dementia and did not have long to live. Rachelle's comfort, compassion and counseling with Gregory was effective and was the start of a life long relationship. Gregory and Rachelle married on his mother's birthday September 18, 2002. Both felt Greg's mother had brought them together.
Rachelle had a deep love and devotion to her husband Gregory. They enjoyed traveling the world and visiting; Paris, Barcelona, Florence, Venice, Rome, Sicily, Maui, Hawaii, Island of Capri, South Africa and China. She lived a full and happy life. A life to be celebrated. Rachelle also pledged the graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Mu Lambda Omega chapter in West Los Angeles.
Greg and Rachelle raised two grandsons, Anthony and Aaron Robinson. Rachelle loved her grandsons with deep and unconditional love and devotion. She and Gregory emphasized the importance of education to success, the need to always treat people with respect and always act as gentlemen.
On March 20,2021 Rachelle was peacefully called home to her heavenly dwelling to be reunited with her mom and dad. She leaves behind her husband Gregory, grandsons Anthony and Aaron Robinson, granddaughter Breanna Yates, stepdaughter Cameron Yates, spouse Justin, godson Kitou Futrell, spouse Martika, sister-in-law Saundra Lang, goddaughters Ayanna and Shayla Miller, niece Melea Clark, spouse Ramon, Aunt Marie Tanner, sister-in-law Rosa, cousin Gladys, Aunt Ethyl Motley, sisters Phyllis Miller, Ida Danzey and many nieces and friends. A special thank you to Dick Laner and his wife Sandy, who took Rachelle to all of her chemotherapy appointments.
