Reginuer D. Perkins was born to Trudie Chester Perkins and Robert Dean Perkins, Sr. on July 11, 1959, in Tallahassee Florida. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Robert Sr. and Trudie, and his sisters, Loretta Perkins and Mildred Chester Johnson.
Affectionately known as Reggie, he was educated at the public schools of Leon County and excelled academically and in athletics. Reggie was one of the first African-American students to attend Hartsfield Elementary. He later attended James S. Rickards High School where he played the drums and excelled in football, as an All-Big Bend running back. He graduated from Rickards in 1977. He continued his football career at Alabama A&M University and received his degree in Computer Science in 1982. Reggie later went on to play semi-professional football as well.
Reggie worked in the Tampa Bay area as a computer programmer/systems analyst and coached football at Countryside High School in Clearwater, FL before returning home to work for Leon County Schools in Tallahassee as a security specialist and head JV football coach at Rickards High School. Reggie was an advocate for social justice and he was a member of the Greater Bond Neighborhood Safety and Crime Prevention Committee. He was commended by law enforcement for his courage and vigilant efforts to keep his community safe. He was a longtime University of Florida Gator fan and was known for his collection and consistent display of Gator apparel and gear.
Reggie accepted Christ and was converted at an early age and was a member of the Greater Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church.
On Saturday, July 11, 2020, God Almighty summoned Reggie home on his 61st birthday for his eternal rest. His relatives and friends will forever cherish precious memories of his life and legacy. Reggie is survived by a host of family and friends including − one sister: Jacqueline (Samuel Randolph) Perkins; two brothers: Robert D. (Beverly) Perkins, Jr., Romerio (Sharon) Perkins, all of Tallahassee, FL; nieces and nephews: Felicia Perkins, Chaka Perkins, Jamil Perkins, William (Daphnee) Rouse, Jr., Ila (Ariel) Perkins- Escoto, Roy (Kristen) Mathis Jr., Sharisse Perkins, Yolanda D. Speed and Willie James Speed, III; special cousin: Alvin Jefferson.
