A New York native, Bob worked in management positions for Marriott Corp, Interstate Hotels Corp, W Hotels and Omni Hotels. For Interstate, he was a General Manager at the Pittsburgh Greentree Marriott and then helped IHC grow by accepting key GM and Area GM positions at the Marriott at Sawgrass Resort, Radisson Manhattan Beach, Bel Age Hotel, Warner Center Marriott and at the iconic Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
Bob left Interstate to join Starwood Hotels and was Managing Director of the first three W Hotels in New York City. He then joined Omni Hotels and retired from Omni as an Area General Manager over the Omni Los Angeles and Omni San Francisco and then moved to Palm Springs, CA.
Bob has mentored thousands of hotel associates and was admired by all for his charismatic personality and team oriented management style. Bob was an avid sports fan and up to his final days was watching the LA Dodgers. Bob was also very active in local politics and was a fierce advocate and activist for LGBT rights and causes.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Tara Graney, and son, Robert Graney Jr, as well as his former life partner Tom Martin. Also surviving are Bob’s four grandchildren Eli, Jenna, Siena and Benjamin who all brought Bob much joy and pride.
RIP BG ! Thank you for showing many of us how to work hard, love, laugh and enjoy life to it’s fullest.
Bob Graney was one of a kind. I really got to know him when I lived and worked in San Francisco briefly from 2006-2007, during his time there with Omni. Our weekend movie binges and steak & martini dinners afterward saved me. So much fun & so... moreBob Graney was one of a kind. BG was an incredible guy. He was always quick with a laugh or a brilliant idea! He had a positive impact on more hospitality careers than anyone I know! Not to mention our softball team always had new Yankee pinstripes every year courtesy of Green Tree... moreBG was an incredible guy. He was always quick with a laugh or a brilliant idea!
