Sheila Mae (Gilman) Davies, was born in Oakland, CA on July 26, 1941, and went home to her heavenly father on May 31, 2020.
Sheila’s family moved to El Sereno, CA in 1945. She attended Emery Park Grammar School in Alhambra from the 5th grade on. She enjoyed belonging to the Girl Scouts of America and as a Senior Girl Scout in high school enjoyed several camping trips to Lake Arrowhead, Big Sur, sleepovers and football games.
A proud graduate of Alhambra High School, with the Class of 1958, she was always involved in school activities, social and service clubs and continued to be active in alumni class reunions. This involvement in service and social clubs continued as she attended Mt. San Antonio College. She received an AA from Mount Sac in 1960.
Sheila attended Alhambra First Christian Church for many years where she was involved in Sunday School and the choir known as the Lamplighters. She later moved to Rosemead Christian Church where she became involved in the “New Life” singing group as their sound board technician from 1985 to 1995. She enjoyed the worship and fellowship at Rosemead Christian and this was her “home church” for her remaining years.
Sheila was employed with Bell and Howe, and then 3M as a bookkeeper for many years where she continued to cultivate lifelong friends and relationships.
Always engaged in social clubs and activities Sheila joined the Arcadia Republican Women’s Club in 2014, became the club secretary, and was their representative in the Arcadia Coordinating Council. She looked forward to working the election polling place each year. Always eager to contribute and fellowship with colleagues and friends, Sheila often worked the ARWC’s Fashion Show to raise funds for Arcadia High School Scholarships.
Sheila established life-long friends and organized birthday parties and reunion gatherings all along the way. Never one to turn down an invitation to lunch, some of the best enjoyments of her life were lunches with friends after church or any day of the week. She had a love of theatre and live music. One of her favorite annual events was attending the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach where classical and contemporary works of art are recreated by real people who are made to look nearly identical to the originals.
Sheila enjoyed the company of her many cats over the years, was addicted to Hallmark movies and the QVC channel. Anyone who knew Sheila knew that she never met a stranger and could converse with anyone about anything. Her outgoing, witty personality was enjoyed by everyone she met. Notably, she was never on time for anything!
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mildred Gilman and her brother Les Gilman. She leaves behind her nephew Jeff Gilman, niece Heather Timmons, sister in law Bobbi Gilman, step-niece Micki Salazar and step-nephew Joey Salazar, and many grandnephews and grandnieces. Sheila always brightened up the room and her presence will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. Rest in peace sweet Sheila.
