Sheila Diane Simmons was born November 19, 1958 in Pensacola, Florida to the late Juanita (Dale) Simmons and Hanibal Simmons, Sr. She passed away on March 28, 2020 at the age of 61.
Sheila lived in Pensacola, FL until moving to Boston, MA at the age of eighteen. Sheila worked as a legal secretary for over 25 years. As a young woman, she enjoyed making her own clothes and was known as “scluse,” short for “exclusive.”
Sheila was known for her fun-loving, bubbly personality and was the “social coordinator” of the family. She brought everyone together for holiday celebrations and enjoyed traveling back to Florida to reconnect with family and friends. She made people feel comfortable in her presence. Sheila enjoyed cooking and baking for family gatherings. She was known for her fierce independence and desire to help others.
Sheila will be dearly missed by so many who know and love her. She is preceded in death by her beloved son Jeffrey Hanibal Montaque. Sheila is survived by her children, Ashley Simmons, Derek Montaque and Eric Montaque; two sisters, Reverend Barbara Jean Simmons and Cheryl Simmons of Boston, MA; five brothers, Hanibal Simmons, Jr (Patricia), Donald Simmons (Verona), Larry Darnell Simmons (Janice), Ronald Eugene Simmons (Diane), and Dewayne Christopher Simmons; and two granddaughters and one grandson.
An in-person memorial gathering will be held at future date to be determined.
