Us men did a lot of training in the months beforehand: "heads up" sighting drills, breathe control, endurance. Lucy did it because she was there. less

Steve was my Boddhisattva. He taught me the meaning of unconditional love. Before I met him, I felt like a bird struggling in a storm. Steve pulled me into safety, so I could finally rest. His kind, gentle heart gave me shelter.
My first visit with Steve's family was magical. With touching innocence, he reminisced about his childhood--playing by the creek, in the backyard with the frogs and ducks, on the trails with Penny the horse.
Tahoe was Steve's happy place. In the morning, he walked outside to hug the Jeffrey pines, inhaling their sweet scent. His eyes and face lit up on mountain hikes, pointing out the birds, the lake, the deep blue sky. Then he'd turn around and hug me out of sheer joy.
Steve was my soulmate, yin to my yang. Together, we were whole and complete , unto ourselves.
Steve will always be in my heart. He will never age, forever my beautiful boy.
The moment I met Steve, I knew he was exactly the right person for Lucy; so different and yet so alike. History proved my instinct to be correct.

I am sending my condolences at this time of your loss of Steve. I heard from Nancy Petrin that his death was sudden and unexpected. This must be a very difficult time for you. I remember talking with you and Steve at Tassajara and getting a sense of the many places and activities you enjoyed together. Grief takes its own time. Please know that you are in my thoughts. I will put Steve's name on my altar.
warmly,

We enjoyed spending time with Steve and Lucy at Tassajara and will remember those times fondly. I will hold these memories dear as I remember what a quiet Tiger Steve was and how much at ease I felt in his presence.

He was such a caring person who loved swimming with us at Campbell Parks and Rec. I remember when I swam with Steve three times at Alcatraz and he didn't wear a wet suit. I couldn't believe this! He also swam with a bunch of us at the Trans Tahoe Relay. He was always a kick back person but not when he didn't get his reservations with me at Santa Clara. Our swim group will truly miss him. We will also miss his amazing sets! I will never forget Steve! Thank you Lucy and Mr. and Mrs.Longerbeam and family for sharing him with us.
With our deepest sympathy, love and prayers, Peter and Monica Cathcart less
