Tammy Pileggi Aborn transitioned peacefully into the afterlife on Thursday, January 31st, 2019. She was 51 years old and was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing. She had been a resident of Clearwater, Florida and was in the care of the kind and caring staff of Morton Plant Hospital during the last weeks of her life. Her passing was the result of complications arising from a number of persistent and significant health challenges.
Tammy was born in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was the second child of Arnold and Dawn Pileggi. Following the divorce of her parents and subsequent remarriage of her mother, she grew up in Brandon, Florida with her sister Wendy Pileggi Patrick and her step-sister Stephanie D’Urso Mink. Tammy graduated from Brandon Sr. High School in 1985 and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1987. She worked as a nurse for several years in a number of corporate and private practices. She was well-loved by her colleagues and appreciated for her kindness and compassion for the patients as well as her bubbly personality and sense of humor.
Tammy was an avid dancer and amateur choreographer in her teens and early 20’s. She had a tremendous passion and gift for dance which she also incorporated into her work with youth ministries.
In 1995 Tammy married Edward Aborn III in Brandon, Florida and the two shared their first home in Valrico, Florida. After moving to a new and larger home, their first daughter, Addison Elaine was born in 1998. The couple had decided that Tammy would focus on being a full-time mom once their family had grown. Tammy volunteered as the leader of Teen Ministries for The Crossing Church until 2003 when their second daughter, Amanda Gabriele was born.
In 2006 the couple decided to part ways. Shortly afterwards, however, tragedy struck when Tammy was involved in an all-terrain vehicle accident near Ocala, Florida. The accident resulted in a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down despite several, intensive surgeries. In the year following the accident and surgeries, she underwent extensive physical therapy and became very self-sufficient in a surprisingly short amount of time. Even though her condition was life-altering, Tammy almost always seemed to maintain a positive outlook and hope for a better future.
Despite making tremendous progress in the years immediately following her accident, health challenges arose as time went by as the result of her condition that made life extremely difficult. Much time and medical effort was spent trying to remedy or alleviate the near-constant pain in which she found herself. Through these difficult years, Tammy still managed to overcome one seemingly insurmountable challenge after another. And she always managed to do so with a positive attitude that she credited to her faith in Jesus Christ.
Regardless of the storm of changes and challenges that she endured, one thing that never wavered was Tammy’s love for her daughters, Addison and Amanda. There were difficult times, and difficult choices, but regardless of the numerous changes, her heart was steadfast for them.
Tammy is survived by her two daughters Addison Aborn Bailey and Amanda Aborn, her sister Wendy, step-sister Stephanie, her father Arnold and step-mother Lynn and three half-brothers Adam, Andrew and Aaron. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relations from the Pileggi family. Tammy is pre-deceased by her mother, Dawn Pileggi D’Urso, who passed away in 1989.
A small memorial service for immediate family was held for Tammy on July 19, 2019 at her mother’s grave as well as a celebration of life at a Pileggi family reunion shortly thereafter. We encourage all of Tammy’s friends and family to share any memories that they might have with her family by using the tools available at this online memorial.
“When I feel afraid
Think I've lost my way
Still you're there right beside me
And nothing will I fear
As long as you are near
Please be near me to the end”
